The much-awaited Tokyo Olympics are set to begin on July 23 in Tokyo. But the Olympics can be played with empty stands. Yeah, according to the report, this year’s Tokyo Olympic enthusiasts from abroad will be banned from attending the event. Here’s all you need to know about it.
The decision to ban Olympic Enthusiasts may cost $800 million in ticket sales
Reports in The Associated Press state that keeping the current situation in mind is impossible to bring in foreign audiences. The reports further state that excluding foreign players from the game may cost $800 million in lost ticket sales. Speaking about this, President Thomas Bach of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said,
“We’re going to focus on the essentials. That means competitions in particular. It’s got to be a clear focus. In this respect, we may have to set one or the other priority.”
However, a final decision on the guest policy will be taken in the coming weeks. The move to exclude international Olympic fans came into play after Japan extended its state of emergency in Tokyo and Osaka. Well, athletes will also need to follow the strict protocols laid down by the IOC.
The International Olympic Committee has also established several rules for athletes
The IOC forbade the use of gestures like hugs, high-fives, and handshakes to reduce contact. The athletes will have to travel to Japan to get tested within 72 hours of their departure and complete an activity plan for their first two weeks in the country. A total of 11,000 athletes, 4,400 Paralympians, and tens of thousands of support staff, such as coaches, judges, sponsors, and the media, are expected to attend the Olympics.
We hope that the Olympics scheduled to take place last year will take place in July 2021 as planned with all the measures in place.
