Uttar Pradesh is all set up to bring driverless pod taxis to make it easier for people to fly from Greater Noida to Jewar International Airport. This driverless pod transport system is standard in many western countries and can comfortably accommodate four to six passengers per vehicle.
The Yamuna Expressway and East Peripheral Expressway are expected to sign an agreement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to enlarge connectivity to remote areas.
Reference to this, MLA Dhirendra Singh shared that Jewar International Airport is 25 km away from the Greater Noida city hence, this choice has been considered. He added that to close the distance gap, pod taxis would be beneficial.
As per the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the DMRC will establish a pod taxi service linking Greater Noida and Jewar International Airport, to which a comprehensive project report (DPR) will also be submitted shortly. The projected cost of the project is estimated to be about INR 50-60 crore per mile, bringing the total cost of the project to an estimated INR 1250-1500 crore.
The new Jewar Airport will be easily accessible by road from Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and a significant part of Uttar Pradesh. Arun Veer Singh, CEO of YEIDA, said that they are working on pod taxis to ensure trouble-free travel for commuters and reduce travel time. He also noted that the pod taxi service would help connectivity when the film city is built in the Jewar district.
